Sexual Child Abuser Sentenced to 32 Years in Prison for 1992 Crime

Marc Brooks

Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's Office has announced that 65-year-old Marc Brooks has been found guilty of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child by a Tarrant County jury.

In June of 2020, a relative reported that Brooks had sexually assaulted her back in August of 1992.  At that time, the victim was 10-years-old and Brooks was 34-years-old.

The jury chose to sentence Brroks to 32 years in prison, representing the 32 years it has been since the sexual assault happened.

Before 2019, Texas statute of limitations provided victims of child sex abuse 15 years from their 18th birthday to file a civil lawsuit against their alleged perpetrator. Since then, Texas law HB 3809 has been passed which allows victims 30 years from their 18th birthday to file a civil lawsuit. In other words, the sexual abuse statute of limitations in Texas expires when a victim is 48 years old.

The case was prosecuted by Deanna Franzen and Lauren Lawrence.  The DA investigator was Brent Ezelle and the Victim Coordinator was Clara Salvatierra.

The Fort Worth Police Department investigated the case.
