Shortly after 2:15 p.m. on Friday, August 16th, the Fort Worth Fire Department was dispatched to a large fire at the Texas Industrial Scrap Metal yard in the 3800 block of North Commerce Street. Responding crews encountered heavy, black smoke and flames coming from the scrap yard. Earlier in the day, some of the same crews had responded to a commercial structure fire in River Oaks. As they were returning to their station, they were dispatched to the fire on North Commerce, moving directly from one scene to another.

With temperatures nearing 106°F and an excessive heat warning in effect, over 175 fire personnel responded to the scrap yard fire using 41 apparatuses. The scene was officially declared completed at 4:17 a.m. on Saturday.

Two firefighters were injured but are expected to make full recoveries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
