Just hours after the funeral of Sergeant Billy Randolph, another incident involving a drunk driver occurred on the same stretch of highway where the sergeant lost his life. Around 5:00 AM, Fort Worth police and fire crews were responding to a minor accident on I-35W Southbound near Sycamore School Road. A pickup truck had been struck while partially blocking a lane of traffic.
As officers attended to the scene, 19-year-old Jonathan Gomez drove down the highway and collided with the already damaged truck and a Fort Worth PD patrol car. The impact was severe enough to spin the patrol vehicle around, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Gomez was subjected to a field sobriety test, arrested, and charged with driving while intoxicated. It remains unclear if additional charges will be filed.
