In December 2022, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to join the Airports for Innovation (A4I) network, a global coalition of ten airports dedicated to enhancing the passenger experience through next-generation solutions. As the only U.S. airport in the network, DFW is eager to participate in A4I’s global call for startups.
A4I focuses on three main objectives: developing innovative solutions to enhance the traveler experience, promoting customer-friendly technologies across the airport network, and proposing models for standardization within the aviation community.
The coalition's first initiative is an open call for startups to showcase breakthrough solutions. Submissions opened on September 12, inviting innovative ideas from the startup ecosystem to shape the future of airport travel.
Startups can submit their proposals in four key areas:
- Seamless Travel: Solutions that enhance the journey from booking to arrival through digital technologies.
- Sustainable Aviation: Innovations aimed at reducing environmental impact and transitioning airports to net-zero aviation.
- Smart Luggage: Ideas focused on improving luggage integration for convenience, security, and sustainability.
- AI-Powered Airports: AI solutions designed to enhance operational efficiency, customer experience, and airport management.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to pilot their solutions in real airport environments, potentially at DFW. Startups founded between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2022, are eligible to apply. DFW encourages interested companies to visit the A4I website for more information and submission details.
