Fort Worth’s Transportation & Public Works Department has been awarded the Gold Award from the Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association for its innovative work on the East Berry Corridor Plan. The award was presented during a ceremony held in Allen, Texas, following a three-day conference.
The East Berry Street Corridor Plan focuses on transforming the area east of I-35W into a smart, walkable, multi-modal corridor accessible to all ages and abilities. To gather community input, the project team hosted a series of open houses where residents shared their needs and desires for the corridor's future.
The planning study thoroughly analyzed the existing roadway conditions, developing a set of context-sensitive concepts and strategies aimed at enhancing mobility and fostering a positive relationship between the roadway and adjacent land uses. Key outcomes of the study include actionable steps to create an inviting streetscape, improve safety, and foster a sense of place for both residents and visitors.
This initiative was a collaborative effort, involving multiple city departments, including Development Services, FWLab, Fort Worth Public Library, Economic Development, and Park & Recreation, showcasing a unified approach to urban planning and community engagement.
