Fort Worth Shooting Sparks High-Speed Pursuit, Ends with Suspect's Death on I-35W

A Saturday afternoon shooting in Fort Worth led to a high-speed police pursuit and the death of the suspect on Interstate 35W.

At 4:12 p.m. on December 28, 2024, Fort Worth police responded to a shooting in the 2900 block of Buckskin Run Street at the Woodhill Apartments in the Western Hills North area. A female victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was transported by MedStar EMS to a local hospital in critical condition.  She later succumbed to her injuries.  

Shortly after, officers identified the suspect and attempted to stop him, but he fled. The suspect led police on a pursuit northbound on I-35W toward Denton before reversing direction and heading southbound.

The chase ended at approximately 5:30 p.m. on southbound I-35W near Heritage Trace Parkway, where the suspect, identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner as 49-year-old Arthur Joseph Vasquez of Roanoke, shot himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lanes of I-35W, temporarily closed during the incident, have since reopened. Police continue to investigate the shooting and subsequent pursuit.
