Repeat DWI Offender Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison in Tarrant County

Edward Gene Moody Jr

The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office announced today that a jury has found 61-year-old Edward Gene Moody Jr. guilty of driving while intoxicated. Due to two prior DWI convictions, the charge was a felony. Moody was subsequently sentenced to 40 years in prison.

The incident occurred on August 12, 2024, when Moody rear-ended another vehicle in Mansfield while intoxicated. Mansfield Police officers responded to the scene and arrested him. Subsequent testing revealed Moody's blood alcohol content (BAC) to be 0.16, which is twice the legal limit in Texas.

The prosecution also highlighted Moody's prior criminal history, noting that he had previously served prison time for a 1988 murder in Tarrant County.

The case was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Benjamin Steiner and Dominic Alves.
