Grand Prairie Officers Return Fire After Woman Shoots at Them

Early Thursday morning, at approximately 12:56 a.m., Grand Prairie Police officers responded to the 4600 block of Yellowleaf Drive, near Joe Pool Lake, regarding a report of an adult female discharging a firearm in a backyard.

Upon arrival, officers located the woman in the backyard and attempted to negotiate her surrender. During the negotiations, the woman climbed the backyard fence, pointed, and fired her firearm at perimeter officers, narrowly missing them.

Fearing for their lives, two officers returned fire, grazing the woman and causing her to fall to the ground. The suspect was taken into custody and transported by Grand Prairie Medics to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Officer-Involved Shooting Team has responded to the scene and is conducting an independent investigation, as per departmental policy. The Grand Prairie Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards will also conduct a concurrent administrative investigation. Both officers involved have been placed on routine administrative leave.
