Grand Prairie, TX — The Grand Prairie Police Department says a man was shot and injured by officers early Friday morning after pointing a firearm at them during a disturbance call.
Around 1:45 a.m. on September 12, officers responded to a 911 report of an active disturbance in the 3000 block of Holly Hill Drive. Police said the caller’s cell phone address auto-populated incorrectly in the department’s dispatch system, sending officers to the caller’s neighbor’s home.
Believing they were at the correct address, officers knocked on the door for about five minutes from a well-lit area. Shortly after, police said a resident came out of the garage, took a “firing stance,” and pointed a gun at officers.
Fearing for their safety, officers fired and struck the resident in the leg, according to the department. The man suffered a non-life-threatening injury, was given first aid at the scene, and walked unassisted to an ambulance before being taken to a hospital. He has since been treated and released.
Police said a case of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Against a Peace Officer will be referred to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.
In line with policy, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Officer-Involved Shooting Team is conducting an independent investigation. The Grand Prairie Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards will also carry out an internal administrative review.
