On Tuesday evening, the Denton City Council confirmed Assistant Chief Tony Salas as the Acting Chief of Police, effective January 10, 2026. Salas will lead the department following the retirement of Chief Jessica Robledo, who recently announced her departure to focus on family after the unexpected loss of a loved one. This acting appointment will remain in place until a permanent chief is named by the Interim City Manager and confirmed by City Council.
“Chief Robledo has been an exemplary leader, and her commitment to ethical policing and community trust will have a lasting impact on our city,” said City Manager Sara Hensley. “While her presence will be missed, we fully respect her need to put family first. We are fortunate for Assistant Chief Salas’ willingness to serve in an acting capacity to ensure a seamless transition and continuity of operations within the department.”
Salas has been with the Denton Police Department since 2005. He began his career as a patrol officer before advancing to roles as a Narcotics and Major Crimes detective. Promoted to Sergeant in 2015, he supervised multiple specialized units within the Operations Bureau and Criminal Investigations Bureau. In 2023, Salas was named Deputy Chief over the North Operations Bureau, and in 2024, he was promoted to Assistant Chief.
Throughout his career, Salas has earned numerous commendations for his leadership and performance, including the department’s Supervisor of the Year award in 2023. His appointment as Acting Chief ensures experienced leadership as the department transitions and maintains its focus on public safety and community trust.
