HURST, Texas - The Hurst Police Department has released full body camera footage from a January traffic stop in an effort to provide transparency and clarify details surrounding a viral incident.
The stop occurred on January 16, 2026, and gained widespread attention after a video circulated on social media showing an officer forcibly removing a woman from her vehicle while her teenage son pleaded for the officer to stop.
According to police, the driver, identified as Taneisha Thompson, was initially pulled over for speeding in a school zone as she was driving eastbound on Airport Fwy. The stop was at E. Airport Fwy (eastbound) at Simpson Dr. According to the officer, she was going 40 mph on a 25 mph speed limit area. Thompson told the officer that she did not see a sign showing it was a school zone. Authorities said Thompson refused to accept a citation from the officer, stating she believed the stop was racially motivated.
Police said that after she declined to take the ticket, the officer threw it inside her vehicle. Thompson then threw the citation out of the window, which the officer said introduced an additional issue of littering.
The situation escalated when the officer reached into the vehicle and removed Thompson, taking her to the ground and placing her under arrest.
A formal complaint alleging excessive use of force was filed on January 20, prompting an Internal Affairs investigation. According to the department, the investigation determined the allegations were unfounded and the case was closed.
The Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office is also reviewing the charges related to the original traffic stop.
The officer involved was identified as Corporal Morgan.
Thompson’s attorney, Lee Merritt, said she suffered injuries during the arrest, including a black eye and a cut lip that required stitches. Merritt argues the officer failed to de-escalate the situation and has called for a federal civil rights investigation.
Hurst Police said the release of the full body camera footage is intended to provide additional context and ensure transparency with the community.
