Fort Worth Assistant Principal Killed in Shooting, Husband Arrested on Manslaughter Charge

BENBROOK, Texas — A Benbrook woman who served as an assistant principal in Fort Worth was killed in a shooting at her home Friday night, and her husband has been arrested in connection with her death, police said.

Benbrook police and fire personnel responded at 7:26 p.m. April 17, 2026, to a residence in the 1000 block of Sproles Drive after a report of someone accidentally shot in the face.

When officers arrived, they found 42-year-old Lindsay Grace Velasquez unconscious with an apparent gunshot wound.

Velasquez was transported to Harris Methodist Hospital in downtown Fort Worth, where she was pronounced dead.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office later ruled her death a homicide.

Velasquez was an assistant principal at Luella Merrett Elementary School in Fort Worth.

Following an on-scene investigation, officers arrested her husband, 39-year-old Alberto Velasquez, in connection with the shooting.

He is charged with manslaughter and is being held on a $35,000 bond.

The investigation remains ongoing.
