FORT WORTH, Texas — A suspect was taken into custody early Wednesday after firing shots during a drive-by shooting that wounded a man and later shooting toward police officers at two separate locations, according to the Fort Worth Police Department.
The investigation began at approximately 12:25 a.m. on June 10 when a man changing a tire in the parking lot of a gas station in the 12400 block of South Freeway was shot in the face in what investigators believe was a drive-by shooting.
The victim's girlfriend was sitting inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting.
According to police, a family member who was on the way to assist with the tire change arrived moments after the shooting and immediately transported the victim and his girlfriend to a local hospital.
Officers responded to both the gas station and the hospital, securing the scenes while beginning their investigation.
While reviewing surveillance footage at the gas station, officers identified a possible direction from which the shots were fired.
At approximately 1:55 a.m., while officers remained at the gas station, additional shots were fired in the area of those officers by an unknown suspect. No injuries were reported.
A short time later, while officers were at the hospital, shots were again fired in the area of officers by an unknown suspect.
Gun Violence Unit detectives interviewed the victim's girlfriend at the hospital and obtained information about a suspect, including the suspect's name and a description of the vehicle believed to be involved.
At approximately 3 a.m., officers at the hospital observed a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description drive past and allegedly begin firing toward officers.
Police pursued the vehicle into a nearby neighborhood but temporarily lost sight of it.
Moments later, a 911 caller reported that a man had parked a vehicle in their driveway and appeared to be hiding beside a residence.
Responding officers located the suspect vehicle and took the suspect into custody without further incident.
Police said Gun Violence detectives are continuing to interview the suspect as the investigation remains active.
No officers were injured during the incidents. Aside from the initial shooting victim, no other civilians were reported injured.
