IRVING, Texas - Residents will have an opportunity to register to vote, update their voter registration information and connect with local community organizations during the Unite & Rise: South Irving Voter Registration Event on Saturday, Aug. 8.
The free, bilingual, come-and-go event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dallas College Irving Center, located at 1081 W. Shady Grove Road.
The League of Women Voters of Irving is hosting the event in partnership with the Irving Hispanic Community Forum, Somos Tejas and the NAACP Irving Branch.
Bilingual Volunteer Deputy Registrars will be available to help attendees register to vote, verify their voter registration status or update existing voter information.
In addition to voter registration services, attendees can meet representatives from participating community organizations, enjoy music by DJ Juan and receive complimentary pan dulce, cafecito and aguas frescas.
The event is part of a nationwide initiative taking place on Aug. 8, when League of Women Voters chapters across the country will host voter engagement and education events recognizing the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Organizers say this year's effort places a special emphasis on increasing voter participation among young voters and strengthening community partnerships.
Organizers encourage those planning to attend to RSVP in advance so enough refreshments can be prepared: https://www.mobilize.us/lwv/event/970399/.
