Details Released on Irving Trail Attack, Victim Fought Off Attacker By Biting Him

IRVING, Texas - A 29-year-old man has been charged with aggravated kidnapping after Irving police said he sexually touched a woman on a walking trail, grabbed her as she tried to leave and threatened to stab her before she fought back and escaped.

The attack occurred at approximately 8:24 p.m. Sept. 14 at Shady Grove Trail Park in the 700 block of West Vilbig Street.

The woman told police she was walking along the trail and had noticed the same man pass her several times. When she reached the northeast portion of the trail, she squatted down to tie her shoe.

According to police, the man approached her from behind and grabbed her genital area, moving his hand toward her buttocks.

The woman turned around and saw the man standing nearby. Police said he repeatedly demanded that she give him her hand, but she refused and began walking away.

As she attempted to leave, the man grabbed her shirt and prevented her from walking away, according to investigators.

"If you move or scream, I'll stab you. Turn around," the man told her, according to the woman's account to police.

The woman then saw him reach toward a pocket and believed he was attempting to retrieve a knife. She grabbed his hand to prevent him from reaching inside the pocket and, during the struggle, felt what she described as a small object that she believed could have been a pocketknife.

Fearing she would be stabbed, the woman bit the man on his upper chest near his left collarbone. Police said he immediately released her and fled on foot.

Surveillance video captured the suspect entering and leaving the park, and Irving police subsequently asked the public for help identifying him.

On Sept. 18, detectives identified the suspect as Isaac Guevara, 29, after receiving tips from the public. Guevara was arrested on an unrelated outstanding warrant and booked into the Irving Jail.

Detectives later conducted a double-blind photographic lineup using Guevara's booking photograph. Police said the woman identified Guevara as the man who attacked her.

Investigators then interviewed Guevara while he was in custody. According to police, detectives advised him of his Miranda rights, and he agreed to speak with them.

Police said Guevara admitted details of the encounter, including threatening the woman with a knife.

Guevara was charged with aggravated kidnapping with a deadly weapon. His bond was set at $51,000, and he remained in custody at the Dallas County Jail.

Court records also show Guevara was on probation for a DWI conviction at the time of the incident.
