Irving Archives and Museum Offers Free Admission Throughout October

IRVING, Texas - Irving residents and visitors can explore the city's history for free throughout October as Visit Irving covers admission to the Irving Archives and Museum (IAM) as part of its "History on the House" promotion.

The monthlong program will provide free admission to the museum at 801 W. Irving Blvd. and highlight the connection between Irving's visitor economy and community amenities.

Visitors during October will also receive a coupon for $5 off purchases of $10 or more at the IAM Museum Store.

The Irving Archives and Museum is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.

Irving Convention Center model goes on display

Among the items visitors can see during the promotion is an architectural model of the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas that was recently taken out of storage after more than a decade.

The model provides a look at the original vision for the Convention Center before it became a prominent part of the Las Colinas skyline and a major component of Irving's convention and tourism industry.

The museum will also host a special public reception Thursday, Oct. 8, at 6 p.m.

During the event, Visit Irving will present the museum with a piece of the copper exterior used on the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas. The copper will eventually become part of a permanent museum exhibit documenting the Convention Center's construction.

"History on the House" coincides with National Arts & Humanities Month and is intended to encourage both first-time and returning visitors to explore the Irving Archives and Museum.
