American Airlines Opens Flight Attendant Applications for 2027 Training Classes

American Airlines Opens Flight Attendant Applications for 2027 Training Classes

FORT WORTH, Texas - American Airlines is accepting applications for its 2027 flight attendant training classes, offering job seekers an opportunity to join one of the world's largest airlines as it prepares to bring new crew members on board next year.

The Fort Worth-based carrier announced that applications are open through mid-October 2026, with selected candidates expected to begin flight attendant training during the first half of 2027.

American Airlines currently employs more than 30,000 flight attendants who serve passengers on flights around the world.

The airline is looking for candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to passenger safety, customer service and the demands of working in the aviation industry.

Applicants can learn more about the position and submit applications through the airline's official recruitment website at flightattendants.aa.com.

American Airlines Updates Flight Attendant Hiring Process

Along with opening applications, American Airlines announced changes to its recruitment process designed to give prospective flight attendants a clearer understanding of the job before they apply.

The airline said it has enhanced the interview experience to provide candidates with a more realistic picture of flight attendant responsibilities, including the challenges and expectations associated with the position.

Flight attendants are responsible for maintaining passenger safety, responding to emergencies and assisting travelers throughout their flights.

American said its updated hiring approach will help applicants better understand those responsibilities while preparing them for each stage of the interview process.

“As American continues its focus on enhancing the premium experience for customers, improving the candidate experience is one of the many ways we're ensuring our people are equally committed and prepared to care for people on life's journey,” said Cole Brown, American Airlines' chief people officer.

“We want the process to mirror the hospitality and service our customers should expect when they travel with us.”

The recruitment changes follow improvements made earlier this year to the airline's onboarding and graduation experiences for newly hired flight attendants.

Airline Emphasizes Safety, Customer Service and Career Commitment

American Airlines officials said they want prospective employees to understand that working as a flight attendant involves more than serving passengers during flights.

The position requires the ability to handle unexpected situations, maintain safety standards and assist travelers during stressful or challenging circumstances.

“Our flight attendants are the ultimate problem solvers and do it with a smile along the way,” said Bobbi Wells, American Airlines' vice president of inflight.

“Like any career, it will be challenging at times. It's not a role for everyone. It requires perseverance and commitment, but it's also a career where you can make a real difference.”

The airline is also sharing information about the hiring process in advance so applicants can prepare for interviews and make informed decisions about pursuing the career.

Elizabeth Nieto, senior vice president of talent and culture at American Airlines, said providing realistic expectations can help new employees build long-term careers with the company.

“By providing a realistic view of the flight attendant expectations up front, we're helping candidates make educated decisions and ensuring those who join American feel confident to stay for years to come,” Nieto said.

American Airlines did not specify how many flight attendants it plans to hire for the 2027 training classes.

The airline also did not provide salary information or specific training dates in its announcement.
