DFW Airport Opens Four New Terminal A Gates Ahead of Holiday Travel Season
DFW AIRPORT, Texas — Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) has opened four new gates at Terminal A, marking the first phase of a major expansion that will add 10 gates and 140,000 square feet to the terminal ahead of the winter holiday travel season.
American Airlines began operating from the newly opened gates A10, A11, A13 and A15 last week as part of the Terminal A Pier Expansion project.
The four gates are the first to open in the expansion, which is expected to be fully operational in time for the upcoming winter holiday travel season.
Terminal A Expansion Adds Space and Passenger Amenities
The Terminal A Pier Expansion is designed to improve passenger movement and provide a more comfortable travel experience for customers flying to, from and through DFW Airport.
The new pier features wider walkways to accommodate passenger traffic, taller ceilings, larger windows that bring in more natural light and improved wayfinding to help travelers navigate the terminal.
The expanded area will also feature new concessions, updated restrooms and upgraded passenger amenities.
Once completed, the project will include 10 newly constructed gates, consisting of five rebuilt gates and five additional gates, resulting in a net increase of five gates at Terminal A.
The expansion will add approximately 140,000 square feet to the terminal's existing footprint.
Innovative Construction Method Used to Build New Pier

Construction of the Terminal A Pier Expansion began taking shape in 2024 using an approach that involved transporting large, prefabricated building sections to the airport.
Seven pre-built modules were moved more than 1.5 miles to the project site.
According to DFW Airport, the project marked an aviation industry first because the modules were transported with approximately 65% of their mechanical, electrical and plumbing work already completed.
More than 10,000 feet of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems had been installed before the modules were moved into position.
The prefabricated construction method allowed substantial portions of the new pier to be assembled before arriving at their final location.
Part of DFW Airport's $12 Billion Capital Improvement Plan
The Terminal A Pier Expansion is part of DFW Forward, the airport's $12 billion, multiyear capital improvement program.
The initiative includes terminal expansions and infrastructure improvements throughout the airport aimed at modernizing facilities and improving the passenger experience.
With American Airlines already operating from the first four new gates, the remaining gates are scheduled to open as the Terminal A Pier Expansion reaches completion ahead of the winter holiday travel season.
