Police Shoot Armed Suspect in Grand Prairie

At approximately 11:23 pm on April 8, 2024, Grand Prairie officers rushed to the 800 block of Cambridge in response to reports of a man behaving threateningly towards a neighbor, possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Upon arrival, officers approached a neighboring residence where the suspect was believed to be. They knocked on the door and announced their presence, only to be startled by the sound of a gunshot from inside the house. Quickly stepping back to a safer position, they saw the suspect emerge, brandishing a handgun and aiming it directly at one of the officers.

In a tense moment, both officers felt their lives were in danger and fired their weapons, striking the suspect. Despite immediate medical attention from the Grand Prairie Fire Department, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators recovered a loaded pistol near the deceased.

The identity of the suspect, described as an adult male, will be released by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office once his next of kin have been notified.

Following standard protocol, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Officer‐Involved Shooting Team is conducting an independent investigation into the incident. Simultaneously, the Grand Prairie Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards will conduct its own administrative investigation.

Both officers involved have been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigations.
