Red Oak Police Apprehend Suspect in String of Robberies

Brian Keith McKinzie

On April 16th, 2024, Red Oak Police Department responded to reports of robberies at two separate locations on Harris Avenue. The first incident, at CVS, involved a black male who acted as if he possessed a weapon and forced a clerk to open the registers.  The suspect took cash and fled in a distinctive white Honda CRV. Despite arriving promptly, officers were unable to locate the suspect.

A review of several Flock cameras, which are automated license plate reader cameras, provided the Red Oak Police Department criminal investigation personnel with a matching vehicle description for the unique damage and stickers and license plate. That information assisted detectives of the Red Oak Police Department criminal investigation division in locating the residence of the registered owner in Dallas County.

Later that evening, at 11:13 PM, another robbery occurred at Exxon Tiger Mart at 100 Harris Avenue in Red Oak with a similar modus operandi. Again, the suspect escaped in a white Honda CRV.

Ten minutes later, at around 11:23 PM, a breakthrough occurred when a Red Oak officer spotted the suspect vehicle at Chevron Taco Casa on Parkerville Road in Lancaster. With assistance from Lancaster Police, the suspect, identified as 56-year-old Brian Keith McKinzie of Dallas, was approached. McKinzie became verbally non-compliant and physically resisted the officer attempting the arrest, prompting the use of a TASER device to subdue him.

McKinzie was taken into custody on multiple charges, including aggravated robbery and evading arrest/detention. He has since been transferred to the Wayne McCollum Detention Center.  A total bond was set at $210,000 for the Red Oak charges.

Authorities also suspect McKinzie in additional robberies in Cedar Hill and Dallas.
