Grapevine Fatal Crash on SH-121 Highlights Dangers of Fatigue While Driving

On Tuesday night, a tragic accident on North SH-121 resulted in the death of a man after he was struck by a work truck. The incident occurred around 11:55 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the highway, near the 2000 block.

Grapevine Police responded to the scene where they found the victim, who sustained major injuries, lying on the roadway. Officers were able to speak with the injured man and rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived.  The victim was transported to the hospital with major injuries, but at the time, paramedics thought he may survive.

The driver of the work truck, who remained at the scene, informed authorities that he had fallen asleep behind the wheel and was unaware of the crash until he felt the impact. He was not injured.

On Wednesday, April 17th, Grapevine Police were informed by hospital staff that the victim had died from internal injuries.  Officers then initiated a death investigation, which is currently ongoing. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

This unfortunate event serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of driving while fatigued. Grapevine Police urge the public to recognize the risks associated with extreme tiredness while operating a vehicle, emphasizing that it can be just as hazardous as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. They encourage individuals who feel too tired to drive to pull over safely or seek alternative transportation options to ensure their safety and the safety of others on the road.
