Irving ISD Appoints Experienced Leader as Director of Athletics

Natasha Stewart, a seasoned coach and educator with 27 years of experience spanning high school and collegiate levels, has been appointed as the Director of Athletics for Irving ISD. This announcement comes alongside the promotion of Coach Michael Luttrell to the role of Executive Director of Athletics for the district.

Expressing a mix of emotions, Stewart commented, "It is bittersweet to leave MacArthur High School while returning to the athletic world that was fundamental in shaping my personal and professional life." She added, "I am elated about this next phase of my leadership journey as the Director of Athletics in this great district."

“It is an honor to name Natasha Stewart as the first female administrator of the Irving ISD Athletics Department,” says Superintendent Magda A. Hernández. “She brings to the position a wealth of experience as an educator, coach and administrator. Not to mention, her energy and passion for those she serves, our amazing students, is exceptional. I have no doubt she will broaden her positive impact and take our athletic programs to even greater heights.”

Stewart's career trajectory includes roles as a principal, assistant principal, coach, and teacher across various districts and schools. She has been principal of MacArthur High School since 2021. Before that, she was principal at Bowie Middle School from 2018 to 2021 and an assistant principal in Mansfield ISD for five years.  Her experience also spans collegiate coaching, where she played pivotal roles in program promotion and player recruitment.

Stewart's career trajectory includes roles as a coach and teacher before transitioning to administration. She began as a science teacher and head girls’ basketball and cross country coach at Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth ISD. Later, she held similar roles at Kennedale High School in Kennedale ISD, where her basketball teams reached area and regional finals. Subsequently, Stewart served as girls’ athletic coordinator and head basketball coach at Mansfield High School in Mansfield ISD. Her responsibilities encompassed managing athletic facilities, supervising athletic personnel and students, overseeing athletic program/booster budgets, and organizing athletic program professional development.

Stewart holds a Master of Science in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from Emporia State University and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a minor in Biology from West Texas A&M University. Her appointment marks a significant step forward in Irving ISD's athletic leadership and underscores the district's commitment to fostering excellence in sports and education.
