Assistant Police Chief Kevin Palmer

The North Richland Hills Police Department issued a statement expressing profound sadness over the passing of Assistant Police Chief Kevin Palmer. Kevin collapsed while on duty at the Police Department on Tuesday afternoon. Immediate CPR, assisted by an AED, was administered before he was rushed by the North Richland Hills Fire Department to Medical City North Hills Hospital. Despite the efforts of first responders and hospital staff, Kevin passed away surrounded by his family and loved ones.

An Air Force veteran, Kevin joined the North Richland Hills Police Department as a Police Officer in February 2004. Over the years, he climbed the ranks, earning promotions to Sergeant in 2012, Lieutenant in 2018, Captain in 2020, and finally, Assistant Police Chief in July 2023. In his role as Assistant Chief, Kevin oversaw various crucial departments including patrol, traffic, SWAT, and criminal investigations. His dedication was recognized through over 40 police service awards, and he graduated from prestigious programs such as the PERF - Senior Management Institute of Police and the FBI National Academy.

Mayor Oscar Trevino expressed the community's gratitude for Kevin's service, stating, "Kevin will be remembered with fondness, respect, and gratitude for his service and contributions to our community."

Police Chief Mike Young also paid tribute, saying, "Assistant Chief Kevin Palmer was such an integral person within our police department family it will be hard to think about him not being a part of our leadership team."

In his final act of service, Kevin Palmer chose to be an organ donor. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and a community that deeply appreciated him. Funeral arrangements are pending, and Mayor Trevino has directed flags at city facilities to be lowered until the day of internment. The entire North Richland Hills community is asked to keep the Palmer family and the NRH family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
