Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Train in Killeen, Investigation Underway

Killeen Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a train. The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at approximately 7:24 p.m. in the 100 block of 8th Street. Officers responded to a report of a pedestrian being hit by a BSNF train at the railroad crossing. Upon arrival, they found a deceased female on the tracks.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the train, traveling eastbound at around 25 mph, approached the 8th Street railroad crossing when the conductor spotted a person on the tracks. Despite sounding the horn and applying emergency brakes, the train collided with the victim, who did not move from the tracks.

The victim has been identified as 58-year-old Christine Gerlinde Rottmann. Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson pronounced her deceased at 8:25 p.m. and ordered an autopsy to be conducted at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
