Johnny Leon Wilson, 54, has been arrested in Grand Prairie, Texas, in connection with the 2018 murder of his ex-wife, Charine Wilson. The arrest took place on Monday, December 2, 2024, after a lengthy investigation and pursuit by authorities. Wilson had been a fugitive since fleeing the Houston area in 2019 after posting bail for charges related to Charine Wilson's death.
Charine Wilson, 29, was last seen on November 10, 2018, at 8950 Glencrest Street in Houston, where she had visited her ex-husband, Johnny Wilson. According to Charine’s son, he was with his mother when they arrived at Johnny Wilson's apartment. After a brief visit, Johnny Wilson exited the apartment alone and drove Charine’s vehicle to a fast-food restaurant, where he dropped off the boy and left. Charine Wilson was reported missing two days later, on November 12, 2018.
On December 12, 2018, the remains of Charine Wilson were found near Richland, Texas, by Navarro County Sheriff’s Office deputies. An autopsy conducted by the Navarro County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed she had died from gunshot wounds.
Investigators quickly identified Johnny Wilson as a suspect in the case. On November 14, 2018, he was charged with murder in connection to the death of his ex-wife. Despite his arrest on February 17, 2019, Johnny Wilson posted bail and later fled the area, failing to appear in court. A manhunt ensued, and law enforcement agencies continued searching for Wilson, developing leads about his possible whereabouts.
On December 2, 2024, after years of investigation, Johnny Wilson was located and arrested in Grand Prairie by members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force and the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force. Wilson was booked into the Grand Prairie Police Department Jail and is awaiting extradition to Harris County, where he will face charges related to Charine Wilson’s death.
