Four suspects have been arrested in connection to a shooting at an Arlington apartment complex that left a teenage girl injured.
On March 10, 2025, around 2:15 a.m., Arlington police responded to reports of gunfire at an apartment complex in the 3700 block of Trailwood Ct. Officers arrived to find dozens of shell casings in the parking lot and a bullet hole in an apartment window. A teenage girl inside the apartment was struck in the arm while asleep in her room. A family member transported her to the hospital before first responders arrived, and she has since been treated and released.
Investigators determined two groups had exchanged gunfire in the parking lot, and a stray bullet entered the girl’s room. Police believe she and others inside the apartment were not targeted.
Two days later, on March 12, officers were dispatched to the same complex for an unrelated report of an armed man threatening a tenant. They encountered a group of possible suspects, including 23-year-old Michael Thomas and 21-year-old Dmarjae Johnson, who fled on foot but were quickly apprehended.
Johnson was arrested for Evading Arrest, while Thomas was charged with Evading Arrest and Deadly Conduct. Further investigation revealed Thomas had an outstanding warrant and a prior felony conviction, leading to an additional charge of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Detectives later linked both men to the March 10 shooting, adding charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon before transferring them to the Tarrant County Jail.
Further investigation identified two additional suspects, 18-year-old Cortez Atkinson and a juvenile male, both documented gang members. Detectives obtained warrants for their arrests on charges of Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity. The U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force arrested the juvenile in Arlington on March 18, and he was transported to the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center. Atkinson turned himself in the following day at the Arlington City Jail.
Police believe the shooting was part of an ongoing feud between the two groups.
“I am extremely proud of the persistent and swift work our Violent Crime Unit and Gang Specialists did to identify these dangerous criminals and take them off our streets,” said Arlington Police Chief Al Jones. “I want to be absolutely clear that this police department and this community will not tolerate this type of violence. When you show the kind of recklessness and disregard for human life that these individuals did, injuring an innocent teenager, the Arlington Police Department is going to come after you with every available resource and ensure you end up in jail.”
