On Sunday, May 18, 2025, at approximately 10:25 p.m., Dallas Police responded to a stabbing call in the 100 block of East Overton Road, located less than half a mile from South Oak Cliff High School.
Upon arrival, officers found 34-year-old Draylon Martin suffering from stab wounds. The preliminary investigation identified 18-year-old John Carranza as the individual who stabbed Martin at the location.
Dallas Fire-Rescue transported Martin to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The incident remains under investigation and is being documented under case number 070515-2025. The case will be referred to a Grand Jury to determine whether charges will be filed against Carranza.
