On May 15, 2025, a Tarrant County jury found 32-year-old Demarcus Starks guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to life in prison.
The conviction stems from a December 27, 2020, incident in which Starks followed his ex-girlfriend as she walked with a 20-year-old coworker. Believing the man was her new boyfriend, Starks shot him in the back. The victim was left permanently paralyzed from the waist down.
Starks fled the area and remained at large for nearly three years. During that time, he accrued multiple additional felony charges. He was arrested on March 2, 2024, by Arlington Police on outstanding warrants.
“My son has to live the remainder of his days on earth sitting without feeling anything,” the victim’s mother said. “Demarcus Starks needs to live behind bars for the remainder of his days.”
The Fort Worth and Forest Hill Police Departments assisted in the investigation.
