The Fort Worth City Council is set to vote today on a resolution to confirm the appointment of Executive Assistant Chief Robert Alldredge as the Interim Police Chief. This appointment will serve until the City concludes its ongoing national search and a new Police Chief is officially confirmed.
The move comes as Fort Worth's current Police Chief, Neil Noakes, prepares for his retirement on May 31, after more than 25 years of dedicated service to the city.
The resolution is crucial to ensure Fort Worth remains in compliance with the Texas Local Government Code, which mandates that a police chief, appointed by the City Manager, must always be in place. If approved and sworn in, Executive Assistant Chief Alldredge will officially assume the interim role on June 1.
A thorough national search for Fort Worth’s next Police Chief, conducted by Mosaic Public Partners, commenced in April. This extensive search process is expected to continue over the next several months, incorporating opportunities for community engagement with finalists later this summer. The City's goal is to make a final selection for Police Chief by August.
Alldredge brings a wealth of experience to the interim position, having started his career with the Fort Worth Police Department (FWPD) in 1999. He has advanced through various ranks, serving as an officer, corporal, and sergeant in multiple units within the Patrol Bureau. His command experience includes assignments as a Patrol Shift lieutenant, CIU/NPO lieutenant, Tactical Operations Division captain, Professional Standards Division captain, and Central Patrol Division captain. His executive experience encompasses roles in Tactical Command, North Command, and Operational Command. On October 1, 2022, he was appointed Executive Assistant Chief, a role in which he oversees the Finance/Personnel Bureau, including Community Alliance Command, Operational Command, Personnel/Program Support Command, and Fiscal Command. Alldredge holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Tarleton State University. He is also a graduate of the 269th Session of the FBI National Academy, the Caruth Police Institute Executive Leadership Course, and is a veteran of the United States Air Force.
