Waco Police Department Special Crimes Detectives have announced an arrest in the homicide investigation of 44-year-old Randy Carpenter. Howard McCreary, 33, has been charged with murder in connection with Carpenter's death.
Carpenter was found with a gunshot wound in the 2600 block of Grim on February 22, 2025, at 12:50 p.m. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and was officially pronounced deceased on February 28, 2025, at which point the investigation was reclassified as a homicide.
McCreary is currently held in the Bell County Jail on unrelated charges and is awaiting extradition to the McLennan County Jail.
This marks the second homicide investigation for Waco in 2025.
