A 58-year-old man from Boyd is facing multiple felony charges after a fatal crash on Thursday night, May 22, 2025, on northbound US-287 near Ramhorn Hill Road between Avondale and Rhome.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers, Rhome Fire, and Wise County EMS responded to a crash involving several vehicles. A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of an SUV struck two sedans parked on the shoulder and hit a pedestrian standing near one of them. The SUV then crossed the median into the southbound lanes, where it collided with a fourth vehicle.

The driver attempted to flee the scene on foot but was detained by witnesses until law enforcement arrived. He was transported to Medical City Decatur for treatment and later released into the custody of Texas Highway Patrol Troopers. Investigators determined the man was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

He was arrested and booked into the Wise County Jail for Intoxication Manslaughter and Failure to Stop and Render Aid Involving Death, both second-degree felonies.

The pedestrian, identified as a 19-year-old woman from Grand Prairie, was transported to Medical City Decatur, where she died from her injuries.

No other serious injuries were reported. The investigation remains ongoing.
