The Arlington Police Department has arrested 19-year-old Xavier Weddington in connection with the May 29 double homicide of two brothers at an apartment complex in the 400 block of W. Park Row Drive.
APD Homicide Detectives obtained a warrant for Weddington’s arrest on one count of Capital Murder with bond set at $1 million. On May 30, 2025, members of the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force located Weddington in Grand Prairie and took him into custody without incident. He was booked into the Arlington City Jail and later transferred to the Tarrant County Jail.
On Thursday, May 29, at approximately 5:11 p.m., officers responded to the Paddock on Park Row Apartments where they located 17-year-old Jason Cuevas and his brother, 21-year-old Bryan Cuevas, with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced deceased.
Shortly after the incident, at around 5:32 p.m., a separate 911 call reported a man shot in the leg in the 2500 block of Sherry Street, approximately 3.7 miles from the apartment complex. The man was identified as Weddington, who claimed he had been shot at while walking to a relative’s house after leaving the apartment complex.
Officers noted inconsistencies in his account, and a witness from the original scene later came forward and identified Weddington as the shooter. The witness also picked him out of a photo lineup.
Further investigation revealed that Weddington regularly stayed at a nearby apartment and had been picked up from the crime scene by a friend who drove him to Sherry Street, aligning with the incident timeline.
Detectives believe the Cuevas brothers arranged to meet Weddington at the complex for a high-risk transaction that turned deadly. Multiple firearms were recovered from the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
