MCKINNEY, Texas—A Collin County jury has sentenced a man to life in prison for the repeated sexual assault of a 10-year-old child.
According to Collin County Criminal District Attorney Greg Willis, Hugo Bellamy, 32, of McKinney, was found guilty of two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and one count of Indecency with a Child by Contact.
The crime was investigated by McKinney Police Detective Dane Billington after the child told her mother about the abuse. The child provided a detailed account during a forensic interview at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County.
Prosecutors presented evidence during the punishment phase that Bellamy, a documented member of a violent criminal street gang, had a history of violent crime. He had previously served two prison sentences for convictions including robbery, aggravated robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. The sexual assault occurred just months after his most recent release from prison.
Judge Jennifer Edgeworth presided over the case and imposed the life sentence.
District Attorney Willis stated, “This life sentence ensures that a violent gang member who preyed on a child will never be free to harm another innocent victim.”
