Corsicana Police Arrest Suspect in Arson That Destroyed Downtown Restaurant

CORSICANA, Texas – A suspect has been arrested in connection with an early morning fire that heavily damaged Napolis Bar and Restaurant in downtown Corsicana on Sunday, October 12.

Around 4:00 a.m., Corsicana Police and Corsicana Fire Rescue responded to a 911 call reporting a structure fire at 111 E. Collin Street. When officers arrived, they found the bar area fully engulfed in flames and thick smoke filling the building.

Officer Jesse Hanna quickly entered the apartments above the restaurant to rescue residents trapped inside, guiding them to safety despite dense smoke and low visibility. Officer Tommy Ordonez also responded, and together the officers discovered signs of forced entry and evidence suggesting arson.

Detective Corporal Michael Brooks and Officer Ordonez developed a suspect through follow-up investigation, which led to an arrest warrant for Arson with Intent to Damage Habitat, a first-degree felony. On October 14, Detective Lieutenant Paul Jock and Detective David Daniels located and arrested the suspect at a residence in Ennis, Texas. Additional evidence recovered from the suspect is being analyzed by forensic investigators.

“The bravery, professionalism, and teamwork displayed by our officers and firefighters prevented further tragedy,” officials said, commending Assistant Fire Chief Wade Gillen for his leadership during the response.

The suspect was booked into the Navarro County Jail and awaits arraignment. The investigation remains ongoing.
