Man Arrested After Fight and Armed Assault on Relative Outside Irving 7-Eleven

Antonio T. Scarver

Irving police arrested a 48-year-old man after a fight involving a firearm outside a 7-Eleven near West Northgate Drive and Esters Road on December 4.

Around 3:45 p.m., officers were sent to the store after multiple callers reported two men fighting, with one possibly armed. When the first officer arrived, he spoke with the victim, Deonte Woods, who said he had been in an altercation with his former stepfather and past household cohabitant, Antonio T. Scarver of Dallas.

Woods told officers that Scarver pulled out a gun, pointed it at him and threatened him, causing him to fear for his life. A physical fight followed, during which Scarver struck Woods with the firearm. A witness, Gregory Tyrone Lewis, stepped in and managed to break up the fight.

As the two walked back toward their vehicles, Scarver entered the victim’s silver 2015 Buick Enclave and took the keys, then left the scene in a green Ford Crown Victoria. Another Irving officer located Scarver shortly after and stopped him. Scarver admitted that he had wanted to shoot the victim and that he took the vehicle keys so Woods couldn’t leave. Officers found the firearm in Scarver’s vehicle, wedged between the driver’s seat and center console.

The owner of the stolen keys, Scarver’s ex-wife, came to the scene and chose to press charges. Another witness also confirmed the series of events.

Scarver was taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Irving Jail at 4:30 p.m. He faces charges of Domestic Violence Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a second-degree felony, as well as Burglary of a Vehicle. He was later released on bond awaiting his day in court.
