Many Irving ISD student musicians are celebrating after recent victories at several UIL contests. Middle school varsity and non-varsity choirs participated in the Concert & Sight-Reading contest last week. Johnson and de Zavala choirs earned superior ratings in both categories, along with Austin, Crockett, Lamar and Travis. In addition, high school students from Irving, MacArthur and Nimitz competed in the band UIL Solo & Ensemble contest with 10 Irving musicians, seven Nimitz musicians and a record 42 MacArthur musicians qualifying for the State Solo Contest in Austin this May. Eight Irving students also qualified for the state class 1 ensembles.
