Could the Mavs biggest move this summer have been drafting a young Frenchman?

"With the 25th pick in this year's draft, the Dallas Mavericks select... Rodrigue Beaubois ... out of Guadeloupe."

Who?  From Where?

After drafting Beaubois, Mavs owner Mark Cuban twittered this about his first rounder: "Fun fact -1st rd pick. got with in 1 " of blake griffin on the touch the top of the backboard test. The guy is crazy athletic, 6'10 reach."

That was last month.  With the start of the Summer League, we're getting well acquainted with the young Roddy Beaubois (as he is now being called).

Donnie Nelson was interviewed by 103.3 ESPN yesterday where he said "There is no question this kid can get into the paint at will... There’s the possibility he’s going to steal some minutes. ...he's been everything we expected."

"He brings us a different dimension," said Coach Rick Carlisle, "We don't have this kind of angular speed, or supreme-type athlete at the point guard position right now. So he gives us a different look."

That's some high praise for the rookie PG, although Carlisle did point out that as a European-player, Roddy needs to work on his alertness and defensive play.

Everyone is crying over the lack of moves this summer and loosing out on Marcin Gortat to the Magic, but could the biggest deal this summer be the drafting of Beaubois?   I know it's a little early to tell, but it will be interesting to see him play when pre-season begins.  Watching him with the Summer League team in Las Vegas, you can really see the potential that the guy has.
