On December 3, 2024, 33-year-old Brian Espy was sentenced to 55 years in prison after being found guilty for the 2022 murder of Adel Elhindawi, a used car dealership owner in Arlington. The crime took place on May 16, 2022, at an apartment complex in the 2600 block of Alexis Avenue.
The incident began when Elhindawi and one of his employees went to retrieve a loaner Jeep that had not been returned as agreed. Upon arriving at the apartment complex, the employee used a spare key to enter the vehicle when Espy suddenly approached, brandishing a gun. Espy fired multiple shots in their direction.
The employee managed to drive the Jeep away and parked it around the corner, waiting for Elhindawi. As Elhindawi attempted to leave the complex, Espy shot and critically injured him. Espy then fled in a vehicle driven by Quyanna Massie, who followed him as he drove off with the repossessed Jeep.
Both the Arlington and Grand Prairie Police Departments collaborated on the investigation, which led to Espy’s arrest. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Tim Rodgers and Chase Payne.
Espy was convicted of murder and sentenced to 55 years in prison for his role in the deadly shooting.
