The Arlington Police Department has confirmed that a victim from a recent shooting has succumbed to his injuries, escalating the case to a homicide investigation. Four suspects are now in custody and charged with Capital Murder.
On Sunday, December 15, 2024, at approximately 3:00 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting in the parking lot of the 4900 block of Little Road. Upon arrival, they discovered 34-year-old Juan Gabriel Sosa of Arlington slumped over in a parked vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Sosa was transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the neck, but was pronounced dead on December 18.
A 45-year-old woman in the vehicle with Sosa was unharmed. She reported that while they were sitting in the car, another vehicle pulled up behind them. Multiple armed males exited, demanded they leave the vehicle, and opened fire. The suspects fled the scene in a Honda Civic.
With witness statements and surveillance footage, officers identified and located the suspect vehicle just after 5:00 a.m. Patrol officers attempted to stop the Civic and a Lincoln Town Car traveling nearby. The Civic fled but later crashed on Browning Drive, while the Lincoln Town Car stopped.
Two individuals in the Town Car, 20-year-old Humberto Barajas and a teenage male, were arrested. A third suspect, 17-year-old Angel Barajas, was apprehended nearby. A fourth suspect, 17-year-old Ja’Tavies Jones, initially evaded capture but was later arrested on December 19 by the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force.
The investigation revealed the suspects' involvement in additional crimes, including a shooting at an apartment complex on Deer Creek Drive earlier that morning, which injured a woman and a dog. Both vehicles used in the incidents were reported stolen, with the Civic linked to a theft in Dallas and the Lincoln to a Grand Prairie carjacking.
All suspects face multiple charges, including Capital Murder, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Aggravated Robbery. Detectives believe the group is connected to additional violent crimes in the area.
The case remains under investigation by Arlington Police detectives.
