The Arlington Police Department is investigating a tragic auto-pedestrian collision that claimed the life of 53-year-old Tonya Clardy on Friday, January 3, 2025.
Around 6:21 a.m., Arlington Fire, Police, and EMS responded to the intersection of Matlock Road and Turner Warnell Road after reports of a two-vehicle crash. While en route, dispatchers received an update that one of the drivers involved in the crash had exited her vehicle and was struck by a passing car.
When officers arrived, they found Clardy lying unresponsive on the roadway. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
According to investigators, Clardy had been driving northbound on Matlock Road when a southbound driver attempted a left turn onto Turner Warnell Road, colliding with her vehicle. Clardy exited her vehicle to check on the other driver and exchange insurance information. As she attempted to cross the intersection, she was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Matlock Road.
The driver who struck her stopped immediately and cooperated with the investigation. Police do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the incident, and the driver is not facing criminal charges.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
