Driver Killed in Fiery Crash with 18-Wheeler on I-20 in Arlington

The Arlington Police Department is investigating a deadly crash that resulted in a vehicle fire and the death of an unidentified driver early Saturday morning, January 4, 2025.

At approximately 2:05 a.m., officers were dispatched to the eastbound lanes of I-20 near S. Cooper Street after receiving reports of a collision involving a car and an 18-wheeler.

Upon arrival, responders discovered the car fully engulfed in flames. The Arlington Fire Department extinguished the fire and found the remains of the driver inside the vehicle. The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of the car was traveling eastbound on I-20 at a high rate of speed and rear-ended the 18-wheeler, sparking the fire. Alcohol has not been ruled out as a contributing factor.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was uninjured in the collision.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased once they are positively identified and next of kin are notified. The investigation remains ongoing.
