Officers responded to the 2400 block of Laurelwood Drive on Monday, January 13, 2025, at approximately 5:49 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. Selby-Mukum was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Selby-Mukum, who lived at the complex where the shooting occurred.

He suffered severe injuries and underwent multiple surgeries after being shot by an 18-year-old student, Timothy Simpkins, who was later convicted and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Currently, no suspects have been identified, and no arrests have been made. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Detective VanTreeck at (817) 459-5691.
