On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Tarrant County Court sentenced 20-year-old Cedric Dyer Whitaker to life in prison after he was convicted of Aggravated Robbery and Aggravated Sexual Assault. Whitaker had initially been convicted of Aggravated Robbery in 2023 and placed on probation following his arrest by Tarrant County deputies on April 6, 2023, after Fort Worth Police detectives identified him as the suspect.
Within four months of receiving probation, Whitaker raped a woman at a hotel. Forest Hill Police officers took him into custody on March 4, 2024. In response to the sexual assault, the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office sought to revoke his probation. After reviewing the evidence, the court revoked his probation and handed down a life sentence.
The case was prosecuted by Tad Schmidt and Ross Van de Kop. The District Attorney's Office extended its thanks to Forest Hill Police for investigating the aggravated sexual assault and to Fort Worth Police for their work on the original aggravated robbery case.
