A 42-year-old man, John Mwangi, has been arrested for the murder of his 37-year-old wife at their residence on Lakecrest Drive in Killeen.
On Friday, February 21, 2025, at approximately 7:16 p.m., Killeen Police officers responded to a welfare check at the residence. Upon arrival, they found the woman with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced deceased at 9:29 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Nicola James.
Two children were found inside the residence, unharmed and unaware of the incident.
Detectives with the Robbery-Homicide Unit obtained an arrest warrant for Mwangi, the victim's spouse. He was later located and arrested on Fort Cavazos and is currently in the Killeen City Jail.
Detectives believe the incident was domestic violence-related and have stated there is no danger to the public.
The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The Killeen Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division Robbery-Homicide Unit is actively investigating the incident.
