Fort Worth Man Sentenced to 38 Years for Evading Arrest, Firearm Possession

A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to 38 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of evading arrest with a vehicle and unlawful possession of a firearm, the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office announced on February 28, 2025.

Eric D. Oliver led Fort Worth Police on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle on May 13, 2024. After the vehicle was stopped, officers discovered a firearm and narcotics inside.

Oliver had prior convictions for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm in 2020. At the time of his arrest, he was also wanted in Tarrant County on an additional aggravated assault charge.

During the trial, the jury was informed that Oliver has been a documented member of a criminal street gang since 2016.

The case was prosecuted by Matt Hinojosa and Dani Wojciak, with assistance from the Fort Worth Police Department's Gang Unit.
