Ankle Monitor Escape Leads to 50-Year Sentence for Child Predator in Collin County

Sharif Ahmad Jasmine

Sharif Ahmad Jasmine, 26, of Fort Worth, was sentenced to 50 years in prison without parole for Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, announced Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis.

Jasmine sexually abused a 10-year-old child for three years. The abuse was discovered when the child’s mother found explicit social media messages detailing the abuse and requests for explicit content.

McKinney Police Department Sergeant Bruce Tyner led the investigation, which revealed Jasmine manipulated the child by providing Wi-Fi services in exchange for explicit videos and pictures, threatening to cut off connectivity if the child did not comply.

The child detailed the abuse in a forensic interview at the Children’s Advocacy Center of North Texas. A Collin County jury convicted Jasmine after hearing testimony from the victim, law enforcement, and child advocacy experts.

During sentencing, prosecutors presented evidence that Jasmine, on bond awaiting trial, removed his ankle monitor in the courthouse parking lot and fled. After a month-long manhunt, he was apprehended by the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, led by Deputy Reid Golson.

Prosecutors also presented evidence of Jasmine’s history of domestic violence, including a prior felony probation in Texas, a six-month prison sentence in Missouri, and additional abuse against another woman.

Judge Carmen Rivera-Worley sentenced Jasmine to 50 years in prison without parole, as mandated by law for Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child.

“Jasmine has a long history of abuse against women and is all too familiar with the criminal justice system. On the very morning of his trial, he made the cowardly decision to cut off his ankle monitor in the courthouse parking lot and run. But justice caught up with him. His guilt was clear, and so was Collin County’s determination to hunt him down and bring him to trial. The women and children in his life are safer with Jasmine behind bars,” said DA Greg Willis.

Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Alex Haynes and Charles Brazell prosecuted the case, assisted by District Attorney Investigators Greg Bowers and Michael Owens, and Victim Assistance Coordinators Valerie Miller, Dixie Harden, Jill Moore, and Melissa White.
