Two Arrested After Failed Burglary Attempt in DeSoto; Gun and Drugs Found

Pedro Granados and Joseph Pumpelly

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at approximately 3:00 AM, DeSoto Police responded to a home burglary in the 600 block of Shasta Street. The homeowner had noticed suspicious activity through his surveillance system and reported to dispatch that several masked individuals had broken into his residence via the back door. The suspects fled the scene in a red Toyota Corolla.

According to the homeowner, the suspects initially approached the front door pretending to be a food delivery service. After being refused, they proceeded to the backyard, where they attempted to enter the home but fled when the backdoor was opened.

Officers from DeSoto’s “Charlie Shift” quickly arrived on scene, locating the red Toyota Corolla as it tried to leave the neighborhood. Two suspects were detained in the vehicle. They were later identified as Pedro Granados, 23, and Joseph Pumpelly, 23, both residents of Mesquite, Texas.

Further investigation revealed that the suspects had planned to steal money from the home, mistakenly believing the homeowner was out of town. Inside the vehicle, police recovered a handgun, cocaine, masks, and gloves.

Both Granados and Pumpelly were charged with Burglary of Habitation, a second-degree felony. Additionally, Pumpelly faces charges for Possession of Cocaine and Unlawful Carrying of a Firearm.

DeSoto Police Chief Costa commended the officers for their swift and coordinated response, which led to the safe apprehension of the suspects. The DeSoto Police Department also thanked the vigilant homeowner for providing timely and crucial information that led to the suspects' capture.
