On February 27, 2025, 25-year-old Lewis Ray Harper Jr. was successfully apprehended by the DeSoto Police Department after being wanted by the Dallas Police Department for a 2020 murder. The arrest took place in Lancaster following an extensive investigation by DeSoto Detectives.
Using advanced facial recognition software, detectives identified Harper from images captured during a recent foot pursuit with police, which had occurred days earlier. After tracking his movements over several days, detectives located Harper at a Lancaster motel.
Harper was taken into custody without incident during a traffic stop near the border of DeSoto and Lancaster.
DeSoto Police Chief Costa commended the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) for their dedicated efforts, which led to this significant arrest.
