Mesquite Road Rage Shooting Leaves One Dead, Suspect in Custody

A road rage incident on the South Service Road of Interstate 30 at Gus Thomasson Road resulted in the fatal shooting of a 45-year-old Mesquite man on Monday evening.

At approximately 5:46 p.m. on March 3, 2025, officers from the Mesquite Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at the location. Upon arrival, they discovered James Alder suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders from the Mesquite Fire Department transported Alder to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Following an investigation, police identified a suspect vehicle and, later, a potential suspect. At approximately 1:15 a.m. on March 4, officers executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence. Authorities located and arrested 50-year-old Rodrick Hanson of Dallas.

Hanson has been charged with Murder in connection with the shooting. Investigators believe the incident stemmed from a road rage confrontation.

The case remains under active investigation.
