Irving ISD has established an Athletic Hall of Fame to honor athletes, coaches and community members for their contributions to the proud history of Irving ISD athletics.
Committee members were appointed and approved by the school board and include Margie Stipes, Wes Pyfer, Nancy Jones, Chris Arrington, A.D. Jenkins, Murphy Webster and Hobert Lytal. Members will serve two year terms with the exception of the first committee. Some will serve a one year term so that alternating two year terms will be established.
Induction categories include:
- former athletes who have graduated at least 10 years prior to nomination;
- former or deceased school district employees such as coaches, teachers, and administrators;
- community members, who are eligible for nomination at any time.
Selection will include accomplishments during their time in Irving ISD,
Nominations are open to all sports and grades, however athletes are not eligible until 10 years after graduation from high school. Coaches and teachers of middle schools may be considered.
A recognition plaque will be placed in the school where the person was most identified, and a plaque will be placed in the field house at Irving Schools Stadium. Long range plans may include a “Wall of Fame” at the stadium.
Goals for the Hall of Fame program include recognition of people and their contributions to Irving ISD athletics. District officials also hope this will assist in forming another connection between the community and the school district.
The inaugural class will be selected in the spring of 2012 and a June induction banquet is currently in the planning stages.
Athletes, coaches and community members may be nominated for this honor accessing http://irvingisd.net/athletichalloffame, or by contacting the Irving ISD athletic office at 972-600-5214.
